Classic Game Show Collections

Favorite episodes of some of the all time great game shows are on tap for this edition of DVD
Recommendations.

The Best of Password, The Best of Match Game, The Best of Price is Right, All Star
Family Feud (not pictured), and Game Show Moments Gone Bananas! are five stellar
collections of classic game shows being re-released from Mill Creek Entertainment that offer hours of
mindless fun and more than a dose of nostalgia.  The classy Allen Ludden, host of
Password, starts
us off with a passel of episodes filmed in glorious black and white that include a host of early to mid
60s celebrities (Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, et al among them) playing the not always easy word game.
Ludden is always a gentlemen and the guests and contestants are dressed up for the cameras - the
guys usually in suits and ties, the ladies with their big hairdos and Sunday best.  The polite manners
of all involved (as in
What's My Line? another 60s classic) are fascinating to watch from the perspective
of today's less than gracious culture.

The free lovin' 70s with plenty of sexual innuendo are on tap with the
Match Game collection which
feature gay icon
Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Somers.  Though the dumbed down game isn't
nearly as fun to play along with ("How dumb was Dora?"), there's still the shag carpet and over the
top 70s fashion and hairdos to entertain you.  Next is a fun compilation of
The Price is Right with its
equally hysterical audience members and contestants, smooth Bob Barker as the host and a cultural
history trip thanks to the changing prizes offered in the Big Showcases.  A collection of
Family Feud
episodes with smarmy host Richard Dawson and a host of 80s celebs is a nice peek into 80s culture
and
Game Show Moments Gone Bananas! with self proclaimed egghead Ben Stein as tour guide is a nice
overview of all of the above and more.  Each set contains three discs (
Bananas! is only one disc).  Now
put down that X-Box and enjoy some old fashioned games for once!
